how a construction project keeps sediment and pollutants out of storm drains, streams, and other waters of the United States. It&#8217;s required by the&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.epa.gov\/laws-regulations\/summary-clean-water-act\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.epa.gov\/laws-regulations\/summary-clean-water-act\">Clean Water Act<\/a><\/strong>, which prohibits discharging pollutants from a &#8220;point source&#8221; \u2014 including a construction site \u2014 without an NPDES permit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:16px\">For construction, that permit is the&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.waterboards.ca.gov\/water_issues\/programs\/stormwater\/construction\/general_permit_reissuance.html\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.waterboards.ca.gov\/water_issues\/programs\/stormwater\/construction\/general_permit_reissuance.html\">Construction General Permit (CGP)<\/a><\/strong>. The CGP requires you to prepare and follow a SWPPP.
